A Chicago cop has been accused of punching a pregnant woman in the stomach, and it was reportedly caught on camera.
And it's not only the punch, but what led up to it that shows the deep rift between some members of the African American community and police officers.
The woman told FOX 32 that what sparked the punch was when she and others laughed at the officer after a suspected drug dealer was able to run from the cops and get away.
But if punching a pregnant woman wasn't bad enough, the white officer then allegedly went on a racist tirade. Robinson is eight months pregnant, and she showed us where the plain clothes officer punched her after she said he first shoved her while she was holding her 1-year-old son. The apartment buildings have several security cameras and Robinson said a woman with the management company told her the video clearly shows the officer punching her. The assault sent Robinson into premature labor. She spent five hours at West Suburban Hospital under observation, before she was cleared to go home. The Independent Police Review Authority is now investigating.
