Randy Cox, a man from Connecticut, has recently reached a $45 million settlement with the city of New Haven after being paralyzed in a police van. Cox was arrested in June 2022, and was placed in a police transport vehicle without a seat belt. During the ride, he suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down. The incident occurred when the police van driver suddenly slammed on the brakes, causing Cox to be thrown forward and hit his head on a metal plate that was bolted to the floor.

Joseph Harrell, the 17-year-old teen who was arrested in connection to a violent robbery that left a Vietnamese mother paralyzed last month, was caught on a jail phone call confessing to the crime.
In the calls obtained by ABC 13, Harrell can reportedly be heard discussing probation while laughing at folks who believe he could spend up to 20 years in prison for his crime.

(CNN)A man in police custody slid headfirst into an interior wall of a transport van in the Connecticut city of New Haven on Father's Day, video released by the city shows -- an incident his family said Tuesday left him partially paralyzed. 
 
Richard "Randy" Cox Jr., 36, suffered a serious injury to his neck and spine while he was in the custody of New Haven police, and the incident is being investigated by the Connecticut State Police, Mayor Justin Elicker has said.
Five New Haven police officers, including the van's driver, have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, Elicker said in a letter shared with New Haven residents on his Twitter account last week.
"What happened to Mr. Cox was just terrible and completely unacceptable ... and it will not be tolerated in the New Haven Police Department," the mayor said in a news conference on Tuesday. Posted by JR

While riding at Whistler Bike Park on August 18th, 2021, it seemed like a normal day for Tony, and his buddies Matt and Jake. The trio had just eaten lunch at Longhorn, and this was their first lap after lunch. They decided to hit the Freight Train trail, but Tony went over the bars before even reaching the Container.
 
He was immediately airlifted to VGH, and underwent emergency surgery on his badly fractured spine. Tony's neck was broken at C2, his back at T4, rendering him a paraplegic for the rest of his life. He also broke all of his ribs, scapula, and sternum from the GoPro mount.
